What Is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a technique for releasing muscle knots or trigger points from the skin by using needles. Deep tissue release is induced with dry needling, which relieves pain and improves mobility. This treatment goes by many names: "dry" needle therapy because it doesn't use any injections; acupuncture without insertion of needles into tissues (though some practitioners will press on an acupoint to elicit nerve impulses); intramuscular stimulation.

This process uses electrical current that stimulates muscles fibers in order to reduce spasms, etc.; percutaneous myofascial release techniques such as Graston Technique® utilizes physical scraping over tender areas rather than inserting filaments or needles through the skin like traditional methods do.

Benefits of Dry Needling

Anyone suffering from pain as a result of repetitive motion or acute trauma can benefit from dry needling. These injuries cause pain and inflammation, causing damage to the body's tissues. The tissue becomes tense and protective when inflamed, similar to a muscle contraction.

Your muscles do this to defend themselves from further damage. Although your body's trying to protect itself, this tense state can be extremely painful. This condition will limit the amount of oxygen that can reach your muscles over time. Scar tissue will also begin to develop. All of these factors contribute to pain and mobility reduction.

What Happens During Dry Needling?

A dry needling session will start with the insertion of very thin filaments into contracted muscle areas. This creates a twitch reflex, which helps to break up cycles of pain by reducing muscular contractions. These sessions can lead to significant reductions in pain over time! When you come visit us for your first appointment at our chiropractic clinic here in Omaha, NE, we'll evaluate your musculoskeletal system and determine if this type of treatment is right for you - it could be just what relieves that deep ache on those days when life seems too much to handle.

Contracted muscle areas will be strategically treated with acupuncture needles during a dry needling session. This technique creates twitch reflexes, which helps to reduce muscular contractions and break the pain cycle by reducing inflammation in those muscles. With regular sessions our chiropractor can help you significantly reduce your chronic or acute pain over time.
